National Velvet Exterior view of Brown family residence, Sussex England
Exterior view of Brown family residence. Sussex Village, England, Winter late 1920s, Day/Night, translucent. Set in the small town of Sewels in Sussex, England, this scene occurs outside the Brown family residence. This backing offered a sense of place, distance, and depth and was among hundreds of backdrops from the MGM asset inventory repurposed in other films, also used in MGM's The Seventh Cross 1944.
A former Jockey, played by Mickey Rooney, meets young, horse-crazy Violet Brown, played by Elizabeth Taylor, and trains her to compete in England’s National Sweepstakes. National Velvet was thirteen-year-old Taylor’s first film.
